Biography of Sebastian Leitner
He has been working as a filmmaker, producer, and editor since 2008 and during this time has also been involved in several larger (music) productions. Born in Vienna, he initially found a home in classical music, where he realized numerous international video and TV productions. His collaborators include Igudesman & Joo, Joshua Bell, Nicola Benedetti, Julian Rachlin, Mischa Maisky, Gidon Kremer, the Janoschka Ensemble, and Janine Jansen.
He studied physics at the University of Vienna, which sharpened his technical understanding and led him to work increasingly as a post-production supervisor for live editing and mastering. He regularly conducts workshops and seminars on filmmaking, including at SAE Berlin, and was nominated for Best Editing at the International Film Festival Madrid for both of his debut feature documentaries, Noseland (2012, a classical music mockumentary featuring John Malkovich and Roger Moore) and Cairo Jazzman (2017, a portrait of the challenges of running a jazz festival in Egypt). Both films screened widely at major festivals and secured distributors and sales agents.
He met Rochholl in 2014 when he was invited as a participant for Music-Film-Lab in 2014, where he elaborated on his work combining classical music with humour and film. He presented his mockumentary Noseland and discussed the challenges of re-exploring the arts and finding new symbiosis. Since 2020, he has also been active under the label CrossGeneration Media with Rochholl and, as Creative Director for the Contemporary Opera Berlin, develops a range of artistic concepts for events exploring the intersection of multimedia and people.
