In its quest to shape the future, Zeitgenössische Oper Berlin has explored various intercultural as well as interdisciplinary aspects, including the concept of contemporary performance space and its context within civil society:

For instance, through the architectural design of a multimedia performance venue or the practical exploration of production and communication realities in an urban setting, such as the Ankunft: Neue Musik festival at Berlin Central Station, as well as through interactive analog and digital communication platforms/performing spaces like Operare,  music-film-lab, or Female Voice Of Iran.

Case study: Sebastian Leitner, now Creative Director of Zeitgenössische Oper Berlin, started his collaboration as part of a project residency. As a filmmaker with a focus on music, he was invited to present at music-film-lab in 2014. He continued to be involved in several projects after, including stage festivals, such as the digital hybrid music festival, Female Voice Of Afghanistan, as well as documentary films, and is an integral part of current project development today.
