Coproduction with the Hebbel-Theater – in the program of the Berliner Festwochen 1999 - with support from the Culture Foundation of the Deutschen Bank and the the Artist-in-Residence-Programme of the DAAD

An authentic story of the Renaissance: Wife and daughter of the Roman Count Cenci take bloody revenge for his having raped his daughter and his numerous other crimes. A subject already covered by Antonin Artaud and his Theater of Cruelty. Inspired by Artaud, Battistelli composed his opera.

Cenci’s statement "I am a force of nature" leads to one of the most relevant questions of the history of mankind: The question of the nature of evil.
